Hello, Robman94!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:Elvis Brothers.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.

I don't understand this, the proof was submitted to OTRS and they have updated the page with confirmation, what other steps do you think are missing? Robman94 (talk) 17:55, 12 November 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Looks alright now, there was no such OTRS notice earlier. Cheers! Animalparty (talk) 19:06, 12 November 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I posted the picture at 5:25pm and you posted your notice at 2:09am the next morning. How quickly do you normally expect OTRS to respond to permission requests? They posted their update less than 48 hours after I posted the pic, so maybe you should give them a bit more time next time? Robman94 (talk) 04:56, 13 November 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Response to Message[edit]

Hi, Thank you for the message on my talk page. Yes, the email was a request to use your photo of the Specials on Wikimedia Commons (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:The_Specials.JPG) on our website, Zumic. I appreciate your clarification of the re-use stipulations, I will make sure to follow the guidelines on the photo page. I can also send you a link once the page is up and published. Thanks so much for your help! - Jacob Jgrossfeld2 (talk) 15:02, 30 August 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Jgrossfeld2: I am curious how you sent the email, can you enlighten me, as that might help me figure out how to read it? As for the photo credit, could you credit me as "Rob Crowe, Chicago" please, and I found the Specials page on your site, thanks. Robman94 (talk) 15:17, 30 August 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Robman94: Absolutely, I went onto your user page and on the left hand sidebar under "Tools" there is an option to email the user. That is how I was able to send you an email message, I believe it should forward to the email you used to register with. Thank you for your preferred credit, I will absolutely make sure to implement that change. Jgrossfeld2 (talk) 15:32, 30 August 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Jgrossfeld2: Thanks Jacob, funnily enough I didn't know there was an email feature here, even though I do have my email registered. Thing is though, I already have a filter in my Gmail to filter all Wiki email into a General folder, and that folder catches a lot of emails, so I hadn't noticed your email, but now that I just searched for it, I found it. Good luck with your web site. Robman94 (talk) 16:48, 30 August 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]
